Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) sebelumnya memastikan akan melantik Kepala BNPT pekan depan. “Minggu depan,” kata Jokowi, usai resmikan Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus (KEK) Lido di Bogor, Jumat (31/3/2023).
Nama Komjen Rycko Amelza sebagai Kepala BNPT lalu dikonfirmasi oleh As Sdm Polri Irjen Dedy Prasetyo. “”Pak Rycko akan menjabat sebagai Kepala BNPT inshaAllah akan dilantik Pak Presiden,” kata Irjen Dedy.

Dikutip dari laman resmi PTIK, Komjen Pol Dr Rycko Amelza Dahniel lahir di Bogor, Jawa Barat, 14 Agustus 1966. Pada 2 Juni 2017, ia menjabat sebagai Gubernur Akpol, setelah sebelumnya menjadi Kepala Polda Sumut yang aktif sejak 5 Oktober 2016.
Ia adalah lulusan terbaik Akpol 1988. Rycko berpengalaman dalam bidang reserse. Penugasan pertama ia jalani di Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat sebagai Kepala Unit Kejahatan dengan Kekerasan, selanjutnya ditugaskan sebagai instruktur di Akademi Kepolisian Semarang.

Tahun 1993 ia mengikuti pendidikan di Perguruan Tinggi Ilmu Kepolisian (PTIK) dan lulus dengan predikat terbaik, selanjutnya kembali bertugas di Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat, lalu Kasat Reserse Polres Jakarta Selatan, dan kemudian sebagai Wakasat Ekonomi Polda Metro Jaya. Tahun 2002 ia mengikuti pendidikan Sespimpol dan lulus dengan predikat terbaik untuk penulisan Naskah Strategis.
Rycko termasuk Polisi yang mendapat kenaikan pangkat cepat saat bergabung dalam tim Bareskrim, yang melumpuhkan teroris Dr Azahari dan kelompoknya di Kota Batu, Malang, Jawa Timur, 09 November 2005.

Ia tercatat pernah menduduki sejumlah jabatan penting di antaranya Kapolres Jakarta Utara. Setelah itu, ia dipromosikan jadi ajudan Presiden RI Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Ia kemudian menjabat Kepala Lembaga Kerjasama Pendidikan Dit PPITK PTIK, lembaga yang menginduk pada Lemdikpol, lalu sebagai Wakapolda Jabar dan menjadi Ketua PTIK.
Ia pernah mendapat penghargaan dari Kapolri saat itu, Jenderal Pol Sutanto bersama dengan para kompatriotnya, Tito Karnavian, Petrus Reinhard Golose, serta Idham Azis, dan kawan-kawan.
