Populasi Jepang anjlok akibat banyak warganya memutuskan untuk tidak memiliki anak. Pasalnya, banyak warga merasa mendapat tekanan jika harus menjadi orang tua sambil sibuk bekerja, khususnya para wanita. Walhasil, sangat sulit bagi mereka membesarkan anak.
Mengacu pada buku putih penurunan angka kelahiran Kantor Kabinet 2022, tingkat wanita yang tidak memiliki kekasih dan belum pernah menikah pada usia 50 tahun mencapai 3,3 persen pada tahun 1970. Angka tersebut meningkat drastis pada tahun 2000-an, mencapai 17,8 persen pada tahun 2020.

Keengganan warga Jepang untuk memiliki anak disebabkan beragam faktor, baik pada wanita yang sudah maupun belum menikah. Beberapanya memilih untuk tidak membesarkan anak karena alasan personal, seperti pengalaman yang kurang menyenangkan di masa lalu.
Curhat Warga Jepang Tidak Ingin Punya Anak
Seperti yang dialami oleh Nao Sawa (46) tahun yang sekarang bekerja sebagai pematung. Dirinya mengatakan bahwa ketika masih kanak-kanan, ia sering dilecehkan oleh ibunya. Akibat pengalaman yang tidak menyenangkan tersebut, Sawa memutuskan untuk tidak memiliki anak.
“Saya tidak tahu bagaimana mencintai (anak-anak). Yang terpenting, saya mungkin akan melakukan hal yang sama kepada anak saya sendiri,” Kata Sawa, dikutip dari The Asahi Shimbun, Sabtu (10/6/2023).
Kini, Sawa sudah menikah dengan pria yang berusia delapan tahun lebih tua darinya dan tinggal di Tokyo.

Berita perihal angka kelahiran yang menurun drastis di Jepang membuat Sawa seringkali bertanya dan memastikan bahwa dirinya tidak harus mempunyai anak. Hal ini dikarenakan Sawa merasa adanya tekanan yang seolah-olah mewajibkan orang-orang yang telah menikah harus memiliki anak.
“Di usia ini, tidak ada yang mendesak saya untuk punya anak lagi. Mencari alasan untuk tidak punya anak mulai terasa konyol,” ungkap Sawa.
Di usianya yang kini telah mencapai 40 tahun, dia tidak lagi merasakan adanya tekanan seperti itu. Sawa menyelenggarakan lokakarya seni yang dapat diikuti oleh anak-anak walaupun dirinya tidak ingin memiliki anak.
“Saya ingin menularkan ilmu yang saya dapatkan,” lanjutnya.
“Jika saya tidak memiliki anak, apakah itu berarti saya tidak dapat meninggalkan apa pun untuk generasi selanjutnya?” pungkas Sawa.
