Berdasarkan informasi, gempa berpusat pada 8.63 Lintang Selatan dan 110.08 Bujur Timur tersebut terjadi pada pukul 19.57 WIB mengakibatkan ratusan orang yang tengah menyaksikan lomba takbir keliling di Kapanewon Piyungan Bantul berhamburan ke jalan.
Mereka yang awalnya duduk di pinggir jalan langsung berdiri dan berhamburan serta berlarian. Getaran gempa Bantul tersebut membuat mereka yang berada di dalam rumah dan di dalam ruko juga berlarian ke luar rumah. Teriakan Allahu Akbar juga membahana.
Warga Patuk Gunungkidul yang bernama Trisna kebetulan mengantarkan anaknya melihat Takbir Keliling mengaku kaget ketika tiba-tiba berada ada yang mendorongnya. Dia kemudian melihat sekelilingnya ternyata banyak yang berlarian ke tengah jalan.
“Getarannya cukup kuat ini. Saya langsung peluk anaknya,” ungkap Trisna.
Dia mengaku ketakutan karena guncangannya terasa cukup lama. Lututnya serasa bergetar karena terus bergoyang ketika berdiri. Jaringan kabel baik telepon ataupun listrik bergoyang cukup kencang.
Hal yang sama juga dirasakan oleh Annisa warga Timbulharjo Sewon. Dia juga berlarian mencari tempat terbuka ketika tiba-tiba ada goyangan Gempa Bantul yang cukup kuat. Beberapa barang di dalam rumahnya sempat terjatuh akibat guncangan gempa tersebut
“Ada gempa tadi langsung lari,” timpalnya
Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) mencatat dua kali gempa susulan terjadi pasca gempa utama dengan kekuatan M6,4 di Bantul, Yogyakarta.
“Hingga pukul 20.30 WIB, hasil monitoring BMKG menunjukkan adanya 2 (dua) Gempa Bantul susulan dengan magnitudo terbesar M3,9,” ungkap Kepala Pusat Gempa Bumi dan Tsunami BMKG, Daryono dalam keterangan resminya.
