Komunikasi politik sudah berlangsung, tidak hanya di level kelompok yang akan bertarung, tapi merembet juga ke masyarakat.
Kencangnya suhu yang dibangun serta kuatnya terpaan media menjadikan komunikasi politik begitu dinamis, fluktuatif, sekaligus sarat muatan provokatif.

Andai dinamika terus dibiarkan dan provokasi bebas berkembang, jadi ancaman pertahanan keamanan kita. Ini perlu diwaspadai.
Sejatinya, berpolitik itu bukan asal bicara, karena di sana ada suara yang mesti dipertanggungjawabkan.
Namun, politik memang menyangkut suara orang yang mesti dibicarakan. Artinya, politik adalah komunikasi di mana semua orang terlibat dalam proses sosial untuk memahami kepentingan, masalah, otoritas konstitusional, sanksi, sekutu, dan sekaligus musuh.

Itu dikatakan Craig Allen Smith (Smith, 1992), profesor komunikasi politik ketika memulai bahasan mengenai ihwal komunikasi politik mesti dilaksanakan dalam masyarakat yang beradab, tidak asal bicara di dalam berpolitik.
Setiap warga negara mesti dilengkapi dengan pemahaman ketika ingin berpartisipasi dalam pembicaraan politik.
Namun, pikiran Smith pada 1990-an itu, tampaknya masih bergema. Ia menyatakan pentingnya interpretive communities in conflict dalam berkomunikasi politik.

Saat itu, Smith mengusulkan pendekatan interpretatif bagi berbagai komunitas politik di dalam berkomunikasi.
Ia menekankan pentingnya memadukan aspek intrapersonal dari proses kognitif, pengembangan hubungan interpersonal, budaya kelompok dan organisasi, integrasi sosial, dan adaptasi retorika.
Berbagai aspek itu diharapkan akan membawakan perilaku politik yang mencerahkan, bijaksana, tidak responsif, dan lainnya, ketika berkomunikasi.
Pada era kini, berkomunikasi politik harus disadari dan didasari dengan kesadaran tinggi terhadap makna kebersamaan dalam persatuan dan kesatuan kebangsaan kita.
Komunikasi politik kini menjadi rentan dan mudah membawa perpecahan bila tidak disadari dan didasari dengan sikap interpretatif yang baik.
